Privacy Policy

This policy explains exactly what TempShare stores when you use the service, how long it keeps it, and what happens in between. It is written in plain language, because a privacy policy nobody reads protects nobody.

The Short Version

TempShare lets you share a file anonymously: you upload, you receive a link, and six hours later the file is permanently deleted. There are no accounts, no passwords, and no personal details collected at any point in that flow.

The only records that exist during those six hours are the file itself, a small set of technical metadata about it, and a salted hash of your IP address used to prevent abuse. We do not sell any data, because selling data is not what this service is for.

The rest of this page expands on each of those points. If you remember only one thing, remember the six hours.

What We Store When You Upload

When you upload a file, TempShare stores the file so it can be served to anyone you give the link to. Alongside the file, we keep a minimal set of metadata needed to operate the service.

Specifically, the record associated with an upload consists of the following and nothing more. If an item is not on this list, we do not have it:

  • The file itself, up to 10 MB.
  • The filename, exactly as you uploaded it.
  • The file size and file type.
  • Timestamps for the upload and the scheduled expiry.
  • A salted hash of your public IP address, never the address itself.

Automatic Deletion After Six Hours

Every file is deleted exactly six hours after it is uploaded. The deletion is automatic and permanent, and it happens whether or not the file was ever downloaded.

When deletion runs, the file and its metadata are removed from storage, and the link stops working at the same moment. Nothing is kept for later retrieval, and an expired file cannot be restored by anyone, including us.

Your IP Address: Hashed, Never Plaintext

Like nearly every website, TempShare can see the public IP address your connection comes from. Unlike most, we do not keep it. What we store is a salted hash of that address, which is a one-way cryptographic fingerprint rather than the address itself.

The hash serves exactly one purpose: enforcing the limit of one active file per public IP address, which keeps the free service fair and resistant to abuse. We cannot reverse the hash to recover your original address, we never display it, and we never share it. When the associated file is deleted, the hash goes with it.

No Accounts, No Passwords

TempShare has no registration, no login, and no user profiles. That decision was privacy-motivated: an anonymous service cannot leak an account database, because there is no database to leak, and there are no passwords to reuse, phish, or forget.

The practical consequence is that your link is the only key to your upload. If you lose it, there is no dashboard to recover it from, so keep the link somewhere safe until it has done its job.

Advertising and Cookies

TempShare is free, and it stays free through legitimate display advertising. The ads you see are served by third-party advertising networks. Google AdSense is one example of such a network.

These networks may set cookies or use similar technologies to serve and measure advertising, including advertising tailored to your interests. That processing is governed by the privacy policies of the networks involved. You can manage personalized advertising through your ad settings, for example in your Google account, and you can control or delete cookies through your browser.

Uploading and downloading files does not depend on advertising cookies. The core of the service works exactly the same way in a completely fresh browser profile.

Data Sales, Children, Policy Changes, and Contact

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers. The service was not built around collecting information in the first place, and there is no business relationship in which your data changes hands.

TempShare is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has uploaded a file, contact us and we will remove it.

We may update this policy from time to time, and the current version is always the one published on this page. If you have questions about anything described here, you can reach us through the contact information published on the TempShare website.

Frequently asked questions

Do you keep my IP address?

No. We store only a salted hash of your public IP address, which cannot be reversed to reveal the address. It exists to enforce the one-active-file-per-IP limit and is deleted along with the upload record.

How long do you keep my file?

Exactly six hours from upload. After that the file and its metadata are permanently and automatically deleted, and the link stops working.

Do you sell my data?

No. TempShare does not sell personal information, and the service is not designed around data collection. It is funded by display advertising, not by data.
