Why we built it
Most of the time you do not need a cloud drive, an account, or a monthly subscription. You need to send one PDF to a client, one photo album to a relative, or one archive to a colleague. Existing tools make that harder than it should be with forced registration, desktop apps, or links that stay alive forever.
TempShare does exactly one thing: it hands you a short link to one file, and it deletes everything six hours later. There is nothing to manage afterwards, because there is nothing left to manage.
How it works
When you upload a file, it is stored encrypted in transit and written to object storage, and a record of it goes into a database with an expiry timestamp exactly six hours ahead. The download link contains a cryptographically random identifier, which makes links practically impossible to guess.
Every time someone opens a link, the service checks the expiry before doing anything else. When the deadline passes, the file is removed from storage and the link stops working. A scheduled cleanup job also sweeps expired files every fifteen minutes, so nothing lingers even if nobody visits the link again.
- Maximum file size: 10 MB per upload
- Link lifetime: exactly 6 hours from upload
- One active file per network at a time
- Downloads are forced — files save instead of opening in the browser
Privacy by design
TempShare has no accounts, no profiles, and no personal information to leak. The only trace of an upload is a salted, one-way hash of the uploader’s IP address, which exists solely to enforce the one-active-file rule. The hash cannot be reversed to reveal the original address.
File metadata and the stored file are deleted on expiry. Share links are random and unlisted, and download pages are kept out of search engines.
How it stays free
TempShare is ad-supported. Reserved advertising spaces appear on the site, and they never interfere with the upload or download flow. There is no premium tier, no watermarking, and no artificial waiting time.
Running the service is inexpensive by design: files are small, storage is short-lived, and the six-hour limit keeps total usage bounded. Advertising covers the infrastructure, nothing more.
The limits, honestly
TempShare is not backup, not collaboration, and not a way to distribute large files. If you need permanent storage, folders, version history, or files larger than 10 MB, a dedicated cloud storage service is the right tool.
For everything else — one file, one link, one recipient, no traces — TempShare aims to be the fastest path between the two.
Frequently asked questions
Is TempShare really free?
Yes. There is no account, no trial, and no paid tier. Ads on the site cover the running costs.
Do you keep my IP address?
No. We store only a salted one-way hash of your IP address to enforce the one-active-file rule. The hash cannot be turned back into your address, and it is deleted along with the file record.
What happens after six hours?
The link stops working immediately, and the stored file is deleted by a cleanup job that runs every fifteen minutes. There is no way to recover a file after expiry.
Can I upload a file larger than 10 MB?
No. The limit is enforced on the server and cannot be bypassed. Split large archives into parts, or use a dedicated storage service for bigger files.
